16.01.06 Texture Pack

This is a bunch of textures i made for generally. they are based on royalty free textures i found on the web. I resized them, adjusted colors and tones to match GR trackediting needs. All textures are converted to the valid GR palette (without black. even if black is part of the GR palette it is misinterpreted/not used by the game)
I've not tested all of them ingame, so i don't know if they are all usefull. You'll have to try it out. The zip contains two folders: 512x512 and small, for the different sizes of the dimensions.

If you're new to using layers and masks, here is a quick explanation how to use them in Gimp, and also a screenie that shows what i mean. Using them in other Programs like Photoshop is simillar. Don't know if PSP support layer masks.

Click on image to enlarge

File -> Open as Layer
Then in the Layers Palette select the layer with the texture. RMB -> Add Layer Mask. Select "Black (full transpareny)"
Select the brush tool and paint with white color the areas on the mask where you want to have the texture. To erase the texture at unwanted spots, just select black as primary color for painting on the mask.
If you use a Fuzzy (Soft) brush shape,and Dissolve as painting mode for the brush, you can create smooth transition at the edges of the texture.

Dissolve gives you more control how it will appear in the game, but using the brush in normal mode could also result in nice effects, you'll have to try it out.
Another method is to paint on the layer mask with normal mode, and switch the layer mode to dissolve. Or play around with reducing the Opacity for the layer.

If you have a localized installation of Gimp in your own language and want to follow my instructions or other Gimp related tips in the tutorial forum, here is a quick and dirty tip how to "unlocalize" Gimp and force it to use English language settings: Go to your Gimp installation folder (usually c:\program files\gimp-2.x), in the subfolder lib is another folder called locale. Create a backup of this folder (select it, ctrl+c, ctrl+v). go into the locale folder and delete all subfolders except en_GB.
I don't know if there is another way. I didn't found any registry entry or setting in one of the gimp config files that is responsible for the language settings. If you know a other way, please let me know.
